Bain Capital supports 24 Hour Race in Hong Kong in fight against human trafficking Nearly 650 runners participated in this year’s 24 Hour Race

On November 14, Bain Capital served as a corporate sponsor for the 6th annual 24 Hour Race in Hong Kong, joining in the movement to end modern-day slavery and human trafficking. Nearly 650 runners from 24 schools vied for the Bain Capital Fastest School Team Award, running more than 10,000 miles on Lugard Road (The Peak) in a continuous 24 hour team relay race. The top prize ultimately went to the teams from Hong Kong International School, who completed an impressive 378 laps (1 lap ~ 2.1 miles).

The 24 Hour Race brings together thousands of students every year in Hong Kong, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to raise funds for selected charity partners and to create urgency to stop human trafficking. In Hong Kong alone, the students raised more than HK $1.5 million for this year’s selected charities, Chab Dai and Justice Centre.

The 24-hour event is a reminder of the 5,500 people who become victims of slavery every day, 1,400 of them children. “Slavery and human trafficking is a global problem that is often overlooked,” said Bain Capital Private Equity Managing Director Jim Hildebrandt. “Bain Capital’s partnership with the 24 Hour Race is raising awareness and making a tangible impact in the lives of victims.”

In addition to sponsoring the 24 Hour Race, Bain Capital has also been involved with Peak 24, the corporate version of the 24 Hour Race. In May, a team of Bain Capital employees ran the Peak 24 marathon, raising $100,000 Hong Kong dollars and placing 7th of 16 participating corporate teams.
