Bain Capital employees donate air miles to help Make-A-Wish Foundation bring children’s dreams to life

In December, Bain Capital Community Partnership launched its Wishes in Flight campaign to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Massachusetts and Rhode Island transport children with life-threatening medical conditions and their families to their wish locations. Bain Capital employees were encouraged to donate their frequent flier miles to the foundation, and the response was overwhelming as more than 2.4 million miles in total were donated to help fulfill the wishes of hundreds of children.

“Bain Capital’s response to our campaign is truly something to be proud of,” said Jordan Salvatoriello, Public Relations Manager at Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island. “These miles will be critical in helping to make our wish kids’ dreams come true.”

This year more than 290 wish kids in Massachusetts and Rhode Island will travel with their families for a Make-A-Wish experience, for a total of more than 1,100 round-trip tickets. The average number of miles needed for one domestic round-trip ticket is 50,000 – and can be up to 180,000 for one international round-trip ticket. Every mile donated is money that Make-A-Wish can save, meaning that more funds can be allocated to ensuring that each and every wish child has her dream fulfilled.

Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island grants wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich their human experience with hope, strength, and joy. According to information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 500 children in Massachusetts and Rhode Island are newly diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions each year. The organization’s vision is to grant wishes for every medically eligible child. The Wishes in Flight campaign was not the first time Bain Capital has supported the Make-A-Wish Foundation; in 2014, Bain Capital Community Partnership served as presenting sponsor for the Make-A-Wish Gala, helping to raise more than $950,000 to grant the wishes of more than 100 children.
